The Blankinship Lab Hub
The Hub is the Blankinship Soil Health Lab's own software, at the University of Arizona. The lab uses it to keep its projects, samples, datasheets, shipments and lab notes in one place.
What it does
- Projects: each of the lab's projects, with its deadlines, its people and its files.
- Samples: the samples each project collects, and where each one is kept.
- Datasheets: Excel workbooks the Hub prepares for the bench and reads back once they are filled in. Work at the bench stays in Excel.
- Shipments: samples and extracts sent from one place to another, each shipment listed on a manifest that the receiver checks on arrival.
- Lab notes: notes on the lab's work, with attached files and photographs of notebook pages.
Who uses it
Approved members of the lab only. The Hub is not open to the public; this website is where anyone else can read about it.
How lab members sign in
With a Google account, once the lab's Hub administrator has approved them. Someone not yet approved cannot get in: their sign-in only asks the administrator for access. Signing in asks Google only for your name, your e-mail address and your basic profile. It gives the Hub no access to your own Google Drive, Gmail or Calendar.
Where the lab's files are kept
The files the Hub keeps, such as datasheets, attached files and photographs of notebook pages, are stored in the lab's own Google Drive, owned by the lab's Google account. The Hub reaches that Drive through the lab's account, never through yours.
